Public Outreach

Anthropology in Public High Schools

I have been developing a formal public outreach program for the Department of Anthropology with high schools in the greater New Brunswick area. This program includes a presentation about biological anthropology and an opportunity for students to interact with fossil casts of hominin skulls. Programs taking place at Highland Park High School in early 2024 have shown great success. I recognize that many of these students did not grow up with the same privileges I had such as going to museums or digging for fossils and were not otherwise exposed to anthropology. Thus, I believe it is important to “bring the museum itself” to such students in order to expose them to the available opportunities as they pursue higher education.
